What this practice test covers

Practice for the Listening and appraising paper (J536/05). The listening questions use our own recordings on piano, orchestral and band instruments, Indian and African instruments and steel pans. The paper itself plays commercial recordings, which are not used here. Concertos with a soloist and orchestra are not played in this practice test. Greek and Middle Eastern folk music, calypso singing and the samba bateria are not played either. Rock with electric guitars, songs with words, large film scores and video-game music are also left out. Several of these are asked in words in the last section. The melody dictation, the score tasks and the extended answers are not included. The portfolio and the practical component are coursework and are not included.
